May Picks Update 5/5 - 5/9

Well, with oil prices sky rocketing to almost $126 per barrel nearly everyone saw a downturn from Wednesday on. The DOW, NASDAQ, and S&P are all down after some decent gains at the beginning of the week. Tuesday I had an overall increase of 2.45% in a mere 4 days with a value of $18,700 above the original value. Unfortunately oil prices and other externalities kept that jump from going any higher. April picks however are still climbing and since the end of April they have gone up over $3,400.

Week End Changes:

MAY PICKS
VM: Down from $3.75 to $3.16
VZ: Down from $39.02 to $37.91
MOT: Down from $9.95 to $9.76
CHL: Down from $86.59 to $83.52
PALM: Up from $5.64 to $5.82
S: Up from $8.74 to $9.38

APRIL PICKS
FMX: Up from $43.80 to $44.53
ZLC: Up from $19.91 to $20.68
SIRI: Up from $2.67 to $2.73

Sprint Update

Whoever doubted my Sprint pick read the link above, a story that first broke a few days ago. Three great things are happening with Sprint. First, they may be acquired by Germany's largest telecom provider who also happens to own T-Mobile USA Inc. Second, they will hopefully be getting rid of Nextel which has been haunting them since the day they made that $35 Billion deal. Third, as a result of one and two, the stock has made some great gains in just the last two days and if things start to roll we should continue to see these gains.

April Stock Picks

I've been fairly lazy about getting these out.

FMX - this company is the largest coco cola bottler in Mexico and has been reaping the benefits of a stimulus package given to businesses back in March. The stock has had a slight slow down but is still steadily increasing. Next update will be today around 4PM CST

ZLC - Most of us know Zale Diamonds. This company has been making some huge moves lately to create long-term wealth for their share holders. Since 11/07 they have announced a $300 mm repurchase of stock, they have been making changes in management and have seen quite a bit of growth just in the last year. While their stock value has been pretty volatile there are two good things happening. It looks like it will be great for the short seller as long as you are keeping a good eye on it and in the long run the company is building value if you have that kind of patience.

Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (SIRI): There has been a lot of chatter about a merger between Sirius and XM. They have successfully jumped through the hardest of the hoops with the FCC that were needed for the merger as of the end of March; read about it here. I first watched this on 4/14 and added it to my virtual portfolio at $2.45. Today it closed at $2.69 but after hours trading has been going for $2.70. No huge increase here, but it is going to look really good once they can get this merger going. XM Radio being the larger company is not going to benefit from the merger as much as Sirius. So stick with SIRI even though it should be slow climbing for the time being we'll see a good profit once the merger goes through (here's hoping) there should be quite a boost.
